越戰(vietnam war)1955-1975：越南舊稱「安南」。
南越和美國為阻止北越共產黨將南越與北越統一，所做的長期不求贏的戰爭。
1885年，中法安南之役清廷將越南割讓給法國。(1863高棉、1885越南、1892寮國，統稱法屬印度支那)
1940-1945年，二次大戰期間，日本侵佔越南。
1945年8月，日本投降後，盟軍總部將越南境內，區分為南北兩區受降。
1954年，法、越發生第一次「印度支那」戰爭，最後在「奠邊府戰役」中越南人取得勝利。法國軍隊正式撤離越南。在日內瓦召開會議，簽訂條約。以北緯17°為臨時分界線，北部歸胡志明(俗稱北越)，南部屬保大(俗稱南越)。
1954年10月，美國總統艾森豪在法軍撤離中南半島後宣佈直接支援南越政府。
1955年2月，首批美軍顧問三百人到達南越，協助訓練南越三軍。
越戰：計有200萬人在越戰中喪生，(美國人佔5萬8千人)。
＊美國國內普遍反越戰。有這個慘痛的越戰經驗，台灣很難期待美國協助做戰。

【說明】這首歌佇全球已經是反戰、愛和平的具體象徵。鮑布狄倫這首歌佇1962年是美國上流行、銷路上好的歌曲。鮑布狄倫歌手講:「上罪惡的代誌是，hia-𥼚(遐的)看著毋著的物件，心裡嘛知影he(彼)是毋著的，但是無願意面對的人」。鮑布狄倫的唱聲，充分反映出當時對戰爭、暴力、族群衝突的觀感。
